Logistics
Whether you use professional movers or do it yourself it is important to keep in mind the logistics of each location you’re moving from and too. Your single story home might be really easy to move everything out but if you were moving into a third story home/townhome take into account flights of stairs can have on your ability to move everything quickly. Add in there a long carry such as a 250 foot walk from the home to the area you can fit the truck and move that should have taken half a day is now looking to be a full day just due to logistics alone.
Apartment Logistics:
One-Three story apartment buildings will typically equate to a unit being on the first, second or third floor and will involve one to two flights of stairs and parking lot access near the staircases or a long carrier through a court yard or around the building to get to the parking lot.
Four story buildings or highrises will have elevators and flights of stairs. Typically the elevator will be shared or reserved for the move. For reserved elevators these will typically take you out to a loading dock where a moving truck or vehicle can be parked to load and offload. Most four story buildings and highrises will have long carriers to and from the elevator on each landing as well as additional time to load the elevator, take it up or down and then offload the elevator, take it to the truck or home and then rinse and repeat.

Townhome Logistics:
Two story townhomes will have a garage either attached or detached with the living space on the first floor and bedrooms on the second floor for some, or garage and an office/bedroom on the ground floor and living space and other bedrooms on the second floor. The flights of stairs will either be straight up, turn 90 degrees one direction and up the remainder of the way or turn 180 degrees one direction and up the remainder of the way. The stairs in townhouses can be restricted and have low hanging ceilings that prevent certain items like Queen Boxsprings from being able to fit up the stairs. Normally the moving trucks can back up to or as close to the garage or front door as possible, some cases there is a long carry to walk to the side of the townhouse to enter through the main entry point if the garage has restricted access or a steep step to get into the home.
Three story or higher townhomes will have a garage either attached or detached with the living space on the first floor and bedrooms on the other floors inter mixed with some of the living spaces, or garage and an office/bedroom on the ground floor and living space and other bedrooms on the higher floors. House Logistics:
One story house will typically have drive up access to the garage or main entry point of the home for efficient loading and unloading. These usually do not have long carries unless the truck has to park on the street or away from the home due to height restrictions or low hanging foliage. No flights of stairs besides usually a few steps to get up into the home or going outside of the home through the garage or main entry point. Some houses will have back patios with a pool and seating area or an outdoor shed with additional contents.
Two story or more house will typically have drive up access to the garage or main entry point of the home for efficient loading and unloading. These usually do not have long carries unless the truck has to park on the street or away from the home due to height restrictions or low hanging foliage.Houses with multiple stories will usually have the main living areas downstairs and bedrooms upstairs with an additional game room or office. Some houses will have back patios with a pool and seating area or an outdoor shed with additional contents.
Storage Logistics:
Climate controlled storages are your typical indoor storage units within a larger facility. These can have long or short carriers dependent on the storage units location in the facility. They usually entail walking through the building up an elevator if the unit is on another floor through the isles of units until reaching the required storage unit for load or unload. For units on floors besides the ground also include additional time due to having to get all items to the elevator, load the elevator and then take it down, unload the elevator and load in the truck. Many indoor climate controlled storages provide moving carts to make getting contents into and out of the storage a lot more efficient.
Non-climate controlled storages are like rows of garages you can drive up to and get direct access to. These do not usually have long carriers since we can park the truck right next to the unit. Some outdoor units though can lead to interior hallways with smaller units that can create a bit of a long carrier depending on how far in the unit is in relation to the entry point into the back storages. These storages do not usually have carts available to help and purely have to rely on the equipment you have.
PODS, Crates, Tractor Trailers are storages that can be transported from location to location and usually range from short carriers to long carriers depending on where the storage container can be dropped for loading and unloading purposes. These work well for moving out of state or over 250 miles across state and remodels for your home.
Inventory
When taking into account your household inventory, it is good practice to familiarize yourself with the name of the item so when getting estimates for moving we can clearly identify the item being mentioned. It’s also important not to get too caught up in the dimensions since when it comes to moving it more so depends on the weight and volume being moved. Dimensions are more critical for unique items or requests such as getting a 300 lb gun safe up a spiral staircase and ensuring all the items will fit in the new home or location you are moving two.

Hazardous locations and items
If it was not for these two variables we would recommend more people to do their own moves. But like most homes/townhomes your most likely have some larger items (Couches, bed sets, dressers, appliances) you want to have moved from your home and into your new location or you have long carriers and flights of stairs that with the added weight of the inventory there is no way you can or want to move these items on your own. Not to mention the risks these items pose to the location as well, no one wants to move out or into their new home and have a heft repair bill for the drywall or fixing the damaged furniture item.
Why hire STRONG COLLEGE STUDENTS MOVING?
If the BULK of your inventory, the LOGISTICS of each location or the amount of oversized items and hazardous location has not already pointed out the importance of using a professional mover then let me tell you a little bit more about us and why we are the best solution for any move.
SCS:
At SCS we approach each job like a final exam for one of our college courses. First we identify the areas of utmost concerns and what we can provide as a solution to minimize these concerns and provide a service that follows. Second we explain the area of concern with our respected clients and allow them to make an educated decision on how they would like us to proceed. We then recover the game plan with our crew members and execute the game plan to it’s full effectiveness. We like to pride ourselves on not seeing things through half way and ensure each job and task is seen through from start to finish.
